A New Neighborhood

A New Neighborhood

A few phone calls to the seller and very little negotiating later, we closed on a 4,500 square-foot lot in a small gated community with direct access to a perfectly paved 4,000 foot runway. The weekend after we closed on the lot, the two of us drove by to see the piece of earth we had just claimed. At the end of the street another home was under construction. Even without exterior finishings we could see the sleek, clean lines of modern architecture that matched our design hopes. Luckily for us, the construction company had posted a sign in the front yard.

Of course we did research on this company and several others to make sure that we weren’t just jumping into things. However, after a few phone calls and some discouraging conversations about potential budget and construction limitations we found that the original company was exactly what we needed. They already knew the city and had already fought for building permits. They had worked with the HOA on architectural details and deed restrictions. And they knew the construction… restrictions may not be the right word, but it’s the first one to come to mind… that come with building a hanger home.

A few weeks later we met with the builder. He took us on a tour of the house that was not yet finished at the end of the street. The house is an architectural gem. It contains a lot of the same ideas that we wanted to see in our house. The main living is upstairs while the bedrooms are downstairs on the same level as the hanger. The main level is open with the living, dining, and kitchen all combined. This reminded us of past homes that we had lived in while living in Europe. The modern and international touches were spot on even in the middle of construction. This is now where we stand, we have an idea and a plot of land and now a builder who will help us bring it all together.
